As of Monday, April 13, the Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 32 positive cases of COVID-19 in Coffee County.
The number jumped from 14 to 32 over the weekend, likely after positive tests returned from Coffee County’s drive-up testing done in Enterprise on April 7.
After testing more than 40 people at the Enterprise Civic Center, ADPH Southeastern District Administrator Corey Kirkland emphasized the need for Coffee County residents not to panic if there was a spike in positive cases following the additional testing.
“Regardless, there is no need to panic in this situation,” Kirkland said. “The thing to remember is that once we identify them then our disease identification staff is going to contact them and contact their physician and they’re given instructions on how they should proceed from there.
“They will self-isolate and then we will give them information on when they should be free of the virus and what they should do if symptoms worsen. I think that also helps them to know what it is they have to do to stay healthy but also what they have to do to make sure that their friends and family are healthy. A lot of people are going to get over it at home. Several people have been sent home from the hospital (to recover). So again, there is no reason to panic.”
As of April 13, a total 107 tests have been done on Coffee County residents, while 20,605 total tests have been administered in the state. Thus far, Alabama has 3,611 confirmed cased of COVID-19 and 61 deaths from the illness with 457 hospitalizations statewide.
