Coffee County EMA has released a statement today, April 22, confirming that a COVID-19 related death in Coffee County had been wrongfully reported by the Alabama Department of Public Health.
The death, which the ADPH had reported as COVID-19 related, was to be investigated further to see if COVID-19 was the primary cause of death.
“Coffee County EMA depends on information provided by the Alabama Department of Public Health regarding number of tests administered, number of positive cases and deaths related to COVID-19,” Coffee County EMA Director James Brown said. “We regret when these numbers are falsely reported as this adds to the confusion and trust in the reliability of reported numbers but commend ADPH for correcting information that is discovered to be inaccurate or faulty.”
ADPH releases all COVID-19 related deaths on its online database and lists those deaths as “reported deaths,” and then it is investigated to determine whether the primary cause of death was COVID-19. If it is established that it was the primary cause of death ADPH also confirms this and lists it as “died from illness.”
Currently Coffee County has no reported deaths or confirmed deaths due to COVID-19, while the state has a total of 191 reported deaths and 178 confirmed.
Coffee County’s number of positive COVID-19 cases is 68 out of 424 total tests.
