The Coffee County Commission approved a bid for the construction of a new cell at the Coffee County Landfill at the May 10 commission meeting.
The new cell – the eighth cell at the landfill – will be built by T&K Construction of Vinemont at a cost of $4,556,720. That bid was the lowest of the three bids. The two other bids came in at $4,596,127 and $5,21,161 respectively. Construction is expected to begin sometime in June.
E-911 Director Dean Blair spoke to the commission and stressed the importance that Coffee County residents have their address clearly and properly marked, so that emergency responders don’t have trouble finding addresses. Blair said that the New Brockton Fire Department offers signs for $20 that can be placed in a resident’s yard clearly marking their address.
At a recent commission work session, County Engineer Marty Lentz let the commissioners know that the catalytic converter on a bus at Mount Pleasant Senior Center had recently been stolen, which is the second bus to get hit in the area senior citizen centers. The commission discussed the possibility of constructing a barn to park the bus in or the possibility of installing security cameras.
County administrator Rod Morgan said that the state let counties know that the state would be helping counties with installing new handicap accessible voting machines in the coming months.
