Alabama

As the first cases of the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus in Alabama have been confirmed, Governor Kay Ivey has declared a State of Emergency and announced the closure of all schools K-12 in the state starting at the end of Wednesday, March 18.

Ivey announced the school closures at a press conference in Montgomery on March 13 and said that schools could re-open on April 6.

Students will continue to attend school through March 18 and the state will reassess the situation before April 6, according to Ivey.

In addition, all athletic events past March 17 will be cancelled, and that includes practices, weightlifting and any other athletic activities. According to the AHSAA, a decision will be made regarding the remainder of the regular season and playoffs for spring sports before April 6.
