Flying over Laos

Retired Lt. Col. Willis R. (Bob) Bunting  was a major and the commander over the 48th Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam. In this picture he was flying for a landing zone in Laos during the infamous Lam Son 719 campaign near the end of the Vietnam War. Bunting was the first of his Blue Stars to cross the border into Laos and the first Blue Start to be shot down, only to find additional aircraft on that day—Feb. 8, 1971—and keep flying.
