Victims in murder-suicide identified

The Enterprise Police Department has identified the suspect in this investigation as Jose Antonio Rivera Morales, age 43, of Enterprise.  The victim has been identified as Miriam Gonzalez Gonzalez, age 47, of Enterprise.  The exact motive for the deaths is not clear at this time, but EPD Detectives believe the shooting was a result of a domestic between the suspect and victim.  The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no further information will be released.

Coffee County Coroner Robert Preachers has confirmed that 47-year-old Miriam Gonzalez and 43-year-old Jose Rivermoralez were the victims in the murder-suicide that occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., an Enterprise Police Department Patrol Officer was flagged down by motorists near the intersection of Highway 167 North and Boll Weevil Circle to report gunshots heard in the area.

Arriving officers discovered two individuals, both with apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to Medical Center Enterprise and was later pronounced deceased. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation, being conducted by the EPD Criminal Investigations Division, indicates that both individuals were travelling together in a vehicle on Highway 167 North.

The initial investigation indicates that the suspect shot the victim, then turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.

This is an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
