The commanding general of Fort Rucker and the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence was promoted to the rank of a two-star general during a ceremony at the U.S. Army Aviation Museum.

Maj. Gen. Michael D. Ludy was officially promoted from brigadier general to major general July 22. Lundy’s wife, Paula, and daughters, Kacie and Sydnie, pinned on his rank during the ceremony.

Lt. Gen. Robert Brown, commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, said Lundy’s nearly 30 years of career experience as a U.S. Army officer made the appointment a well-deserved one.

“I knew he was exceptional officer, but what is absolutely amazing is to see the amount of deployments and the variety in his assignments, which is truly unbelievable,” Brown said.

Brown also praised Lundy’s ability as a combat trainer.

“He really understands how to train soldiers so that the scrimmage they go through is much tougher than the actual fight,” Brown said.

Lundy thanked the soldiers he has served alongside served with and the mentors who have guided him throughout this career for his success as a leader. He said his biggest support however, comes from his family.

“I never would have thought I would be standing here today,” Lundy said. “The reason I am is because I have three wonderful girls.”

Lundy was commissioned as an Aviation second lieutenant in 1987. Yet, after a nearly 30-year career, Lundy said his family was still his proudest accomplishment.

"You know what I'm most proud of is on that front row today, all three of my girls," he said. "I promise to all of you that I will do my very best to honor this service, honor this office and honor the soldiers that continue to serve.”

Lundy’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters.

His major deployments include missions in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Iraq, Haiti, Bosnia and Afghanistan.
