Hey Ronda,

You obviously have no idea who I am, but I’m a big fan (please excuse the cliché introduction. I’m getting somewhere with this, I swear.)

I’ve been a fan of yours since I saw you compete in the 2008 Olympics in judo.

It was a short-lived moment. I tuned in because I cheer for all American participants during the games. If I’m not mistaken, you came away with a bronze medal.

I thought nothing of it at the time, but oh, little did I know what was to come.

Fast-forward to four years later, and Dana White makes the announcement that you’re the first female fighter to be signed to UFC.

In hindsight, White’s move seemed to come at the perfect time. His main cash cow and most recognizable face, Brock Lesnar, had been battling diverticulitis and there was speculation that his next match would be his last in the octagon.

That turned out to be true, and for many moons UFC was without a “face of the company.”

Until you showed up.

Now, whenever anyone murmurs the letters UFC, you’re more than likely the first thing that comes to mind.

Heck, even people who have never seen a fight in their lives know who you are.

Any woman who steps inside that cage with you knows she’s in for a world of hurt if she’s not on her guard.

They all, however, make the same mistake of trying to be the first to make a move.

Why? Have they not learned from past experiences that moving the first chess piece is the quickest way to a physical checkmate?

And we learned in UFC 190 your signature armbar isn’t the only way you punish foes. That right hook to the temple of Bethe Correia, the knockout blow, even had me seeing stars.

Somehow, though, you make these fights that last mere seconds some of the most entertaining spectacles I’ve ever seen. Dominating performances of opponents that offer less, yet have America craving for more of the same.

Your last three fights have lasted a combined 64 seconds. The last time I was this amused by that number, Nintendo was in front of it.

Now it’s crazy to think that you’ve become America’s darling in such a short period of time.

A Rousey fight night usually means social media blowing up with clever hashtags such as #thingsshorterthanarondarouseyfight or memes of Chris Tucker from that infamous scene where Debo gets knocked out and Tucker blatantly points out the obvious. There were certainly plenty of those directed at Correia seconds after she caught the wrong end of your fist.

You’ve become a trendsetter not just by being a kick-butt fighter, but also by just being real with everyone and being you.

We’ve seen you on talk shows where you explain your love for professional wrestling. There’s even a three-minute video of you confessing your love for Pokémon somewhere on YouTube. You’re not afraid to be brash and talk a little smack, but have shown your feminism in a multitude of ways, such as posing for Sports Illustrated and ESPN’s “The Body” issue. The only thing that’s more rare than that combo is the right-left your opponents have pulled off on you successfully.

So now there are those who are wondering what’s next for you, besides facing Miesha Tate in December and then going off to Thailand to film another movie.

The fight with Cris “Cyborg” Justino, who’s been making her own splash in MMA, is always a possibility in the future. You’ve made your claim, however, that if Cyborg wants some, she better clean up her act.

Until that day comes, keep doing you and I’ll see you in Dallas when you beat Tate. Again.

P.S. Call me sometime.
