Enterprise man charged with murder bonds out

An Enterprise man charged with murder in connection with the death of two Coffee County teens has bonded out of the Houston County Jail.

Anthony Miguel Bishop, 55, was released from the jail in Dothan after bond was set by Houston County District Judge Benjamin Lewis July 16.

Bishop was charged with driving under the influence following a July 6 crash on Highway 84 at the intersection of State Highway 123, eight miles west of Dothan, that involved three other vehicles.

Paula Perdue, 15, and A.J. Riley, 17, died from their injuries caused when Bishop’s 2010 Ford F150 truck crashed into a 2015 Nissan Altima carrying four high school students.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency formally charged Bishop with two counts of murder following the death of the two Coffee County teens.

At the bond hearing July 16, Lewis set bond at $75,000 in each of the murder charges.

Under the conditions of the bond, Bishop is “not to operate a motor vehicle, of any type, on the roads, streets or highways of the State of Alabama or any other state.”

Lewis ruled that Bishop is to contact a Court Referral Officer in Houston County within 72 hours of posting bond, which may be transferred to Coffee County as approved or directed by CRO,” the court order states.

The DUI charge was dismissed at the request of the Twentieth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office. “The state of Alabama will be pursing other charges relating to the defendant,” wrote District Attorney Patrick Jones in his motion to dismiss dated July 8.

Bishop’s preliminary hearing in Houston County Circuit Court is Aug. 7
