Drew Cashin (15) had nine strikeouts for the Gamecocks against Opp.

The New Brockton Gamecocks were leading Opp 6-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning but just couldn’t hold on and lost 16-10 on March 25.

Opp was leading 4-0 heading into the top of the fourth before the Gamecock bats came alive and they scored four runs to tie things up. Drew Cashin led off the fourth inning with a single and Payton Green walked before he was replaced by courtesy runner Hayden Pope. Colton McClenny hit a line drive single to left field to score Cashin before Gabe Herrington reached on an error to load the bases. Riley Simmons then singled on a ground ball to left field to score Pope and McClenny. Brayson Carr then singled on a line drive to score Herrington and the game was tied 4-4.

New Brockton took the lead again in the top of the sixth scoring four runs and going ahead 10-9 but Opp plated seven runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game.

Kaden Cupp started the game on the mound for the Gamecocks pitching two and one-third innings giving up four runs on four hits with one strikeout. Green came on in relief and pitched three and one-third innings giving up eight runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Jaxon Whitworth then came out of the bullpen to pitch giving up four runs and one hit before he was relieved by Josh Gutierrez who pitched the final one-third of an inning with no hits and one strikeout.

Green went 1-for-2 with a home run in the fourth inning scoring one run and 3 RBIs. Cashin went 3-for-4 scoring three runs. McClenny and Whitworth each went 2-for-4 with Whitworth hitting a double.

New Brockton had 12 hits and five errors in the game while Opp had 12 hits and three errors.

Opp 8, New Brockton 7

New Brockton scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to try and come back against the Bobcats but it wasn’t quite enough as they fell 8-7 on March 24.

With Opp leading 5-0, Carr started the scoring after reaching on an error and the bases were loaded from a Whitworth single and a Cupp walk. Cashin singled on a line drive to right field to score Carr then Green singled to score Whitworth and Cupp. Pope, who had come in as a pinch runner, then scored off a wild pitch before the inning ended.

Cashin led New Brockton on the rubber pitching six innings giving up seven runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. Cupp and Green came on in relief pitching the final inning with Cupp giving up one run. Green had a strikeout.

Whitworth went 2-for-2 with a triple scoring two runs in the game. Cashin went 2-for-4 with a home run and scoring a run and 2 RBIs while McClenny went 1-for-4 with a double scoring one run.

New Brockton had eight hits in the game with two errors while Opp had five hits and one error.
