The New Brockton Gamecocks and Lady Gamecocks both dropped Class 3A, Area 4 games on Jan. 15 to Pike County.

The Gamecocks fell 60-46 in a tough loss. Pike County took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter but the Gamecocks answered and tied the score 26-26 at halftime. The Bulldogs, however, owned the third quarter outscoring New Brockton 18-8 to take a 44-34 lead into the fourth quarter. Pike County also outscored New Brockton 16-12 in the final period.

New Brockton and Pike County both shot 41 percent from the field but the Gamecocks also turned the ball over 22 times and were outscored 42-18 in the paint. Pike County also won the rebound battle 35-26.

Dillon Kelty led the Gamecocks with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Brandon Johnson and Matthew Smith had 12 points each. Johnson also had nine rebounds and four assists, while Smith had two blocks.

The Lady Gamecocks fell 59-9 in a frustrating loss as Tajh Boyd led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points, while New Brockton’s Samantha Siniard led the way with four points.
