Troy’s game with South Alabama scheduled for Oct. 3 has officially been postponed after South Alabama was forced to postpone team activities due to COVID-19 concerns.

South Alabama’s official statement regarding the postponement cited “precautionary measures concerning the availability of student-athletes” as the reason for postponing the game.

“We are obviously disappointed for our team but certainly respect this decision,” Troy Athletic Director Brent Jones said. “This is a tremendous rivalry game for both teams and fan bases, and I appreciate South Alabama Athletic Director Joel Erdmann and the Sun Belt Conference for their open lines of communication during this process. We look forward to welcoming our fans back to The Vet on Oct. 10 when we host Texas State in our home opener.”

Jones also said that Troy and South Alabama would work with the Sun Belt Conference to try and come up with a mutual date for the game to be played later this season. Troy and South Alabama have no mutual open dates currently on their schedules. Troy’s season-opener with Louisiana Monroe was postponed from Sept. 5 until Dec. 5 earlier this year after ULM had positive COVID-19 tests among its team.

Troy will host Texas State on Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
