Change is scary. At least for me, it’s always been pretty scary.
Things are changing, not just for me, but for the Sun as well. Longtime Sports Editor Casey Strickland has moved on to new things and I’m going to try my best to fill his shoes.
Casey was extremely well respected and very good at his job. So, it won’t be easy. Casey and I spent a lot of time together over the last year, at various sporting events, banquets and scholarship signings, and I learned a lot from him. Like everyone else, I’ll miss talking to him weekly.
I’m not new to many of the teams and people I’ll be covering here, as I formerly worked for another paper in Enterprise. So, while it is change, it’s also familiar.
I’m familiar to many of the faces, many of the players, many of the teams in Enterprise and New Brockton, and my intent is to simply provide the same type of coverage for all of the local teams here, in all sports, that has become the norm for this paper.
Formerly I’ve worked for the Enterprise Ledger and the Andalusia Star-News along with various other websites and magazines along the way. Sports and writing are my two greatest passions and it doesn’t get much better than being able to write about sports for a living.
There truly is nothing like a Fall Friday or Saturday in Alabama and I tremble with excitement just thinking about the fact that we are just a little over a month away from football season starting again. Last year was my first year covering Enterprise High and New Brockton High, and this will be my first covering Daleville High. Last year was a wild ride that ended in one of the most fantastic high school football games I’ve ever personally witnessed, between EHS and McGill-Toolen, and I expect this season to be just as wild. I hope you enjoy the ride along with me.
