My name is Justin Blowers, and I’m the newest staff writer for The Southeast Sun. I’ll be covering a little bit of everything including New Brockton, Level Plains, Coffee County Board of Education and Coffee County Commission.
I first started exploring journalism during high school when I took broadcast media classes. I really enjoyed producing radio shows in that class as well as being a camera man. However, it was Troy University’s journalism program that led me into the print side where I found my home. I love meeting new people and putting together stories. Even though it can be stressful, it’s still a lot of fun.
I graduated from Troy University with a bachelor’s in multimedia journalism. I’ve worked for the Tropolitan, Montgomery Advertiser and a pop culture website. Up until recently, I interned at Troy Public Radio.
I’ve lived in Alabama my entire life and appreciate the sweeter things in life. By that I mean nothing beats a nice homemade glass of sweet tea.
In my off-time, I enjoy relaxing with a nice soda and just watching the weather, especially if it’s raining. I spend more time doing nothing than I’d like to admit, but everyone needs to relax now and again.
I have a distinct love for old, cheesy, action films. A couple of my favorites are “Escape from L.A.” and “Predator.” A guilty pleasure of mine are films that are so terrible they’re good. A couple of favorites in this category are “Birdemic: Shock and Terror” and “The Room.”
As a reporter for the newspaper, I will work to bring readers an unbiased view on everything happening that matters. I look forward to not only reporting on, but also learning about and becoming part of this wonderful community.
Everyone I’ve met so far has been extremely nice and welcoming. I thank you all for the very warm welcome.
If you haven’t met me yet, I’m sure you will in due time, and I look forward to that.
