Hurricane Sally moved through the Wiregrass area on Wednesday, Sept. 16, leaving large amounts of water in low lying areas and threatening to flood the Elba community in the days after. The first chart shows the Pea River cresting at 31.637 feet at 12:42 a.m. at the Elba dam on Friday, Sept. 18. Many county roads in the northern part of Coffee County were closed due to the danger of water running over the roads and washouts. The second chart shows the amount of rainfall recorded in Enterprise from Sept. 16-18. Total rainfall for those three days amounted to 9.92 inches.
