JUNE 17

The Republican Women of Coffee County will meet June 17, at 11 a.m., at the Enterprise Country Club. The program will be a Second Congressional District Candidate forum. Candidate Barry Moore will be there. Candidate Jeff Coleman cannot attend, but will send a representative. State District 91 Representative Rhett Marques will be there to give a Legislative update. Social time begins at 11 a.m.; an optional $12 buffet served by club employees begins at 11:30 a.m.; and the program begins at approximately noon. Everyone is invited but reservations are required. JUNE 18

Hoobler Music and the Enterprise Music Club will present the Summer Wiregrass Music Festival featuring local artists in the area.  The events consist of five concerts over four days beginning Thursday, June 18, at 7 p.m. with a voice recital by Audra Weaver.  On Friday, Aaron Sun and Noah Mynard are performing an alternative rock/punk concert.  Saturday includes a 3 p.m. performance by the Staccatti String Quartet and a 7 p.m. show given by Bill Cole and Saxophonists Fly Dents playing 70s and 80s music with a smooth jazz feel.  The festival wraps up with a piano recital on Sunday, June 21, by Roy Hoobler playing short selections by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Gershwin. The events are all streamed free and live from Hoobler Music’s Facebook page and there are a limited number of tickets available to help sponsor the artist. The June meeting for the DAV Wiregrass Chapter 99, located in New Brockton, will be held on Thursday, June 25, at 6 p.m. in the New Brockton Town Park located at 202 S. John’s Street. The Coffee County Branch #5017 of the NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Banquet and Image and Lifetime Achievement Awards is rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Enterprise Civic Center. The event will start at 6 p.m. and the theme will be: The NAACP says, “When We Fight, We Win.”  The guest speaker will be Willie Flowers, president of the Maryland State Conference of the NAACP, formerly from Elba. Melissa and Nina Williams of Elba will be given MVP awards for an outstanding 2019-20 basketball season. Tickets are $25 per person.
