Coffee County BOE approves employee bonuses

At the Nov. 5 Coffee County Board of Education meeting the board approved a COVID-19 related bonus for all Coffee County Schools employees.

The bonus will be worth $300 for all Coffee County Schools’ employees and $100 for contract workers.

“In this time of COVID the term COVID fatigue has come to my attention in the last few weeks and I believe COVID fatigue is real,” Coffee County Schools Superintendent Kevin Killingsworth said. “I want to thank each and every employee of Coffee County Schools for getting us this far into the school year and we have a long way to go.

“They have gone beyond the call of duty in so many ways to keep our schools open and our students safe and our visitors safe.”

The total cost of the bonuses for the school system will be $91,000.

“Again, I want to thank every employee of Coffee County Schools,” Killingsworth said. “It has been a trying year but we wouldn’t be able to do it without the dedication our employees have put forward.

“We have learned a lot – COVID reteaches you how to do things – and there is nothing we do in the schools that is done the same as it was before which is a tremendous task. It is stressful and I want to say again that I appreciate all of their efforts.”

In other business, the board voted president Brian McLeod and vice president Galen McWaters to retain their positions for another year.

The board meeting was held at New Brockton High School as the stadium upgrades at Gamecock Stadium were unveiled in a ribbon cutting.

The board also approved the following personnel actions.

Kasey Adkison, teacher at Zion Chapel High School;

Resignations:

CaSandra Hankins, part time CNP worker at New Brockton High School;

Suzy McNeil, CNP worker at Zion Chapel High School;

Employment:

Tammy Rakes, bus driver at New Brockton Schools;

Amanda Chinn, CNP worker at New Brockton High School; and

Kayla Boley, CNP worker at Zion Chapel School.
