As COVID-19 cases seemingly spike around the country and the state, all eyes remain on local school systems as they fight to remain open amid the pandemic.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s school dashboard school systems statewide reported 1,056 new cases in the past week.
Enterprise City School’s have reported 16 new cases, which is down slightly from the 17 cases reported the previous week. According to ECS, the school system has 54 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among the students since Aug. 6.
Daleville City Schools again reported “less than five” new cases. When a school system reports four or fewer cases, the dashboard simply lists “less than five” rather than the specific number.
Coffee County Schools saw an increase from four new cases the previous week to 10 new cases in the past week.
Coffee County Schools Superintendent Kevin Killingsworth reported that the school system had two new student cases at Zion Chapel School, one faculty case at New Brockton Elementary School, six new student cases and one faculty case at New Brockton High School. Kinston School had no new cases. That total brings the school’s total cases since Aug. 10 to 50.
Elba City Schools reported “less than five” new cases, Ozark City Schools also reported “less than five” new cases, Dale County Schools reported 10 new cases and Dothan City Schools reported nine new cases.
ADPH’s numbers do not show how many total cases a school has had since the beginning of the school year nor does it differentiate student and staff cases.
