Biblical wisdom heard at New Brockton baccalaureate

New Brockton High School seniors hear words of advice from Wayne Adams, standing, of Love’s Way Church in Enterprise.

The New Brockton High School Class of 2019 received biblical advice two-fold during baccalaureate services held at Enterprise First Assembly of God on Sunday, May 19.

Wayne Adams, of Love’s Way Church, was the first to offer biblical advice and challenges to the New Brockton High School Class of 2019.

“You need to guard the integrity of your future,” he said, referencing Galatians 6 and Genesis 25. “As you make decisions, always remember that decisions have consequences.

“I challenge you, class, to guard your future. Never sacrifice your future for the pleasure of the moment. Ask God to help you live life regret-free.”

He also told students to understand the “influence of relationships,” using 1 Corinthians 15.

“I appeal to you today, class, for you to choose your relationships carefully,” he said. “It will protect you from many sleepless nights.”

He challenges graduates to “listen to God” about all things, referencing Proverbs 3 to tell the students that knowing how to read the Bible, pray and more can help them understand what God tells them.

Adams told students to “handle temptation” with Jesus, and “stay connected” to church, wherever they end up.

“I challenge you to stay connected to a local church,” he said, referencing Hebrews 10. “You need the church, and the church needs you.

“I challenge you to stay in church, do corporate worship,” he said. “Bible studies and ministry involvement, may it remain a priority to you.”

He also encouraged the graduates to make good financial decisions and “pursue the great pathway to happiness,” which can only be found through God.

“You’ll discover that real happiness comes from loving God and loving other people,” he said.

Jeff Creel, youth pastor at El-Bethel Assembly of God, followed Adams and referenced Psalms 1 to also provide biblical guidance the graduating class.

He encouraged students to continue to worship God in both the good and bad times.

“You’re putting your life around Jesus,” he said. “You’re putting your life into God, into this Word, and everything around you will flourish. It will be green even though trouble comes.

“It doesn’t really matter what you do; it’s who you do it with. If you’ve got Jesus on your side, if you’re serving God with all your heart… He said whatever you do, you will prosper.”

He said the Bible says the work of God is perfect, including every person on Earth.

“All God wants is you, and through His Son, you will prosper,” he said. “What he said he will do, he will do for you.”

Creel also said following God will also ensure joy in a person’s life, and he encouraged the students to “be mindful of the Word of God.”

Coffee County Schools Career Tech Coordinator Gray Harrison offered his own comments and encouragements to the Class of 2019.

“I’ve seen this group as immature seventh graders grow into productive young men and women,” he said. “This is a special bunch. They are small in number, but a great class.”

He closed baccalaureate services with two requests of the students: to be productive in all aspects of life and “stay humble and kind.”
