Daleville defender Jeremiah Grimes (77) drags down a ball carrier.

The Daleville Warhawks (7-3, 4-3) closed out the regular season on the road with a 78-26 clobbering of Class 2A, Region 2 foe Barbour County Jaguars (0-9, 0-7) as Jalen White inched closer to the state rushing record.

The overmatched Jaguars simply couldn’t stop White as he rushed for an almost unbelievable 463 yards and school-record eight touchdowns on just nine rushing attempts.

The eight rushing touchdowns ties a single game AHSAA record and his 51.4 yards per carry is the second most in a single game in AHSAA history. His 463 yards is the fourth most in a single game in AHSAA history, as well. White also had the third most yards in a single game (465) against Geneva County two weeks ago.

White scored on touchdown runs of 27, 54, 75, 45, 37, 41, 80 and 69 yards and he didn’t play a single snap in the second half.

After Daleville took a 64-14 lead into halftime, the second half quarters were shortened to eight minutes and the game was played with a running clock.

Daleville had just two offensive snaps in the second half and scored on both. Quarterback Peanut Bloodsaw heaved a 37-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jordan McDonald and running back Sincere Mckenzie scored on a 15-yard touchdown run.

Barbour County was able to find some success on offense as the Warhawks gave a number of young players a chance in the game.

Barbour County quarterback Zakwavis Johnson – an eighth grader – completed 6-of-16 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown with one interception, while he also caught one pass for 16 yards and a touchdown. Barbour County’s 6-foot-6-inch, 225-pound receiver Raphael Williams also had a big night with five catches for 143 yards and a touchdown. Williams also rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown and completed one pass for a 16-yard touchdown.

Running back Charles Richardson rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown along with returning a kickoff 84 yards to set up one of Williams’ touchdowns.

Daleville sophomore Jeremiah Cunningham had five tackles, three tackles-for-loss and three sacks in the win, while junior Colin Byrd had 3.5 tackles and an interception. Linebacker Myles Parris led the Warhawks with eight tackles and freshman Braxton Carpenter had seven tackles and a forced fumble.

In total, Daleville amassed 512 yards of offense on just 11 offensive plays for the entire game. The Warhawks averaged 46.5 yards per play.

The 78 points is a new school-record, breaking last week’s school-record 70 points against Geneva County – and now brings the Warhawks to 474 total points on the season, just behind the school-record of 521 points from the 1992 season.

White’s big night now brings him to 3,383 yards and 47 touchdowns on the season, just 100 yards shy of Jamarius Henderson’s state record of 3,483 yards set in 15 games back in 2014. According to the AHSAA, White is the only player in state history to rush for more than 3,000 yards in the regular season.

White is also now in third place for rushing touchdowns in a season. The state record is 53, held by Lee Witherspoon of North Jackson.

The Warhawks will get a chance to rest this week with a bye week before traveling to Leroy for an epic rematch of last year’s second round game between the two schools on Nov. 8 in Leroy.
