The Daleville Board of Education approved three homebound contracts and other personnel actions during its Dec. 19 meeting.
Nicole Endsley was approved to provide high school, non-special education homebound services for $35 an hour. Special Services Director Katheryne Horace and Rena Taylor were each approved to provide elementary homebound services for $35 per hour. Horace will provide special education services, and Taylor will provide non-special education services.
Board member Barbara Davis asked who pays the homebound teachers for these services.
Chief School Finance Officer Lynne McWilliams said the teachers are paid through local funds.
“We provide homebound services for those students who are eligible under 504, under ADA,” Horace said, explaining how each student is eligible for homebound services. “Sometimes, we’ll go into the home. It just depends. Sometimes, we’ll meet the parent and the child at the library or a different location for various reasons. We just do an individual assessment as to whether we go into the home or not.”
McWilliams told the board the services provided to the students are limited.
“It’s generally short term,” Horace said, stating the teachers provide up to five hours of instruction per week. “There’s a lot more work taking place in the home during the absence of the homebound teacher.”
The board also approved the following personnel changes:
Resignation:
Mandy Mack, WES Speech Therapist, effective Dec. 13, 2018, and
Maternity Leave:
Lauren Latta, fifth-grade teacher, Dec. 5, 2018-Feb. 15.
The board also approved two field trips for the system’s TAG students. One field trip will occur in April or May, and students will travel to Atlanta to visit the Coke Museum, CNN and the Georgia Aquarium. The second field trip will be May 3 for students to visit the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
The next board meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 4:30 p.m. at the central office.
