All Daleville students are safe and in the process of being transported home by school buses or picked up by parents after the schools were evacuated as a precaution earlier today following a reported bomb threat at the school.
According to Harvey Mathis, Daleville Director of Public Safety, a hand written, printed bomb threat was found stuck to a mirror at DHS just before 12:30. School Superintendent Dr. Diane Flournoy said a student discovered the note in the bathroom of the boys locker room and gave it to Principal Josh Robertson. School Resource Officer Jason Myers and officials went into action from that point to secure the safety of the students and staff, she said.
A bomb squad from Dothan and Fort Rucker, including bomb sniffing dogs, responded. Rescue units have also been put on standby in Enterprise.
Threats by so-called clowns on social media Sunday led to an increased police presence at Daleville High School Monday, said Mathis.
Mathis said a student showed a Facebook post to a parent on Sunday, which indicated a clown, or someone was going to shoot up the school.
The police chief said reserve officers were brought in to back up the regular full-time force and students were protected from the bus to the classroom.
Clown sightings have caused alarm and have been reported in multiple states in the South. Last week, two schools were placed on lockdown due to social media threats made from a Facebook page, “Flomo Klown.” Law officials have since made multiple arrests in Escambia County in relation to those threats, which have been termed as hoaxes.
In any case, Mathis said, any and all threats are taken seriously and students will be protected.
