Medley named new police chief

Allen Medley was sworn in as the new police chief during the Daleville City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 21.

Medley was appointed as the interim police chief on April 1.

During a work session on Monday, May 20, Mayor Jayme Stayton and council members complimented Medley on his work as interim chief.

“He’s doing a fantastic job, way faster than I thought,” Stayton said, stating Medley has “turned everything around” and has brought in more volunteers to the DPS. “Other agencies are speaking highly of Daleville.”

“I’ve heard great things from the (other) cops,” Council member Scott Moore said.

“I like his leadership,” Council member Bobby Hardrick said. “I really like his leadership.”

Stayton said he has also heard the public likes Medley and he was considered “approachable.”

Medley has served five years as the Daleville City Schools School Resource Officer. Before he served as an SRO, he had about 25 years in law enforcement, working in Daleville, Slocomb and Geneva.

He has experience in homicide investigations, undercover operations and several other areas of law enforcement.

He also served in the Alabama National Guard for six years and performed gate guard duty at Fort Rucker during his service after Sept. 11, 2001.

During its May 21 meeting, the council unanimously voted to set his annual pay at $46,000 and provide city employee benefits.
