Area closings for Thursday, Oct. 11 announced

Staff Reports

Schools in Enterprise, Elba, Coffee County, Daleville, Ozark, Fort Rucker and Dale County will be closed Thursday, Oct. 11.

“The timing of Hurricane Michael in our area will make it difficult to realize its eventual impact until the early morning hours on Thursday,” said Enterprise City Schools Superintendent Greg Faught. “Structural damage, road closures, downed electrical lines and power outages should be anticipated if not expected in our area.

“Out of an abundance of caution to protect our students and staff, Enterprise City Schools will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 11,” Faught said. “If conditions permit, some after school activities may continue as scheduled.”

Enterprise State Community College announced that its campuses, along with the Alabama Aviation College campuses in Ozark and Andalusia, will remain closed until Friday, Oct. 12.

In addition, some area cities are imposing curfews.

The city of Enterprise will impose a curfew from 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, until 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.

Enterprise Police Chief T.D. Jones encourages all residents to stay off the roads during the storm.

Enterprise officials will re-evaluate the situation as it develops.

The city of Level Plains has issued a curfew "through the rest of Wednesday evening," Oct. 10, according to the city’s social media page which also states that First Baptist Church of Level Plains has opened as an emergency shelter.

The Daleville Department of Public Safety has issued a city wide curfew from Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. The Daleville Cultural and Convention Center is open as an emergency shelter.
