Elba picked up a 75-68 Class 2A, Area 5 win Jan. 6 when it beat the New Brockton boys basketball team despite an early Gamecock lead.

 New Brockton scored 24 points in the opening frame, and allowed the Tigers 13 to take an 11-point lead into the second quarter. 

Elba outscored the Gamecocks 21-16 to trim New Brockton's lead to 40-29 at the half. 

The Tigers also scored 21 points in the third quarter, and allowed just 13 to cut NBHS' advantage to 53-50 at the end of the frame.

The Tigers outscored New Brockton 17-12 in the fourth quarter to grab the lead and secure the win.

DT Adams led the Gamecocks with 24 points, pulled down a pair of rebounds and had a steal.

Max Weeks had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also swiped three steals and blocked a shot.

Lady Gamecocks lose

The Lady Gamecocks competed despite an early deficit, but lost 47-29 to Elba.

The Lady Tigers raced to a 20-5 lead after the first quarter, but New Brockton outscored them 12-8 in the second to trim its deficit to 28-17 at halftime.

Elba led 37-19 at the end of the third, and both teams scored 10 points in the fourth.

Brandi Donaldson led the Lady Gamecocks with nine points, and Seven Hodges followed with eight.
