An early, 19-point deficit proved to much for the Enterprise boys basketball team to overcome Jan. 16 in a 59-46 Class 7A, Area 3 loss against Jeff Davis.

The Volunteers raced to a 19-0 lead to start the game before Trae Cooper hit a shot at the 1:06 mark in the first quarter to give Enterprise its first points.

Jeff Davis then hit a 3 and led 22-2 at the end of the opening frame.

The Volunteers led 33-11 later in the second when EHS went on an 11-0 run to finish the frame and cut JDHS' lead to 33-22 at the half.

Jeff Davis scored the first five points of the second half before Mason Jordan knocked down a pair of free throws at the 6:41 mark in the third quarter.

E. J. Scott later hit a 3 to cut Enterprise's deficit to 42-31, and another 3-pointer late in the quarter from JaJuan Hayes capped a 7-0 run to pull EHS to within a 46-38 margin.

Jeff Davis responded with back-to-back 3s to take a 52-38 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.

EHS pulled to within 55-45 with two minutes to play, but could draw no closer.

Jordan led the Wildcats with 10 points. C. J. Felder and Scott each had nine points. Hayes added eight. Sam Purvis and Chris Dunford had three each. Dennis Chastang and Cooper each had two. 

Jeff Davis edges Lady Cats

Jeff Davis pulled away in the fourth quarter Jan. 16 for a 37-28 victory against the Enterprise Lady Cats.

Enterprise tied the game twice early before the Lady Volunteers hit a shot and a free throw to take a 7-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

EHS scored the first five points of the second quarter to grab a 9-7 lead, but JDHS tied the game with a pair of free throws.

EHS took a 12-9 lead, but the Lady Volunteers rallied for the next four points before Valencia Spann hit a late shot to give Enterprise a 14-13 lead at halftime.

The Lady Volunteers started the third quarter on an 8-2 run before EHS scored the next four points to pull to within 21-20.

Jeff Davis hit a shot before a 4-0 Enterprise run, the last basket of which gave the Lady Cats a 24-23 edge at the end of the third.

Jeff Davis scored to take the lead early in the fourth, and the shot was the last basket for either team for a long stretch until JDHS hit a big 3-pointer to take a 28-24 lead.

The Lady Volunteers hit a pair of free throws at the 1:32 mark, and EHS was forced to foul.

The Lady Cats managed just four points in the final frame, and Jeff Davis hit seven of eight shots from the line down the stretch to seal the win.

Spann and Korynn Hill led Enterprise with six points apiece. Essence Alexander followed with four. 

Kyhaia Bates and Keke Washington each had three. Gwen Mitchell, Jayla Flowers and Jeide Amos each had two.
