Northview rallied in the second half Jan. 27 for a 74-69 victory against the Enterprise boys basketball team.
The Wildcats built a big lead in the first half.
"(It was) ball movement, breaking their press and knocking down shots, knocking down shot after shot from the outside," EHS boys basketball coach Alonzo Barkley said. "I think Ja'Juan Hayes, Sam Purvis…, C.J. Felder and E.J. Scott have been playing well and just shot well from the outside."
Enterprise led 19-13 after the first quarter and outscored Northview 23-10 in the second frame to build a 42-23 advantage at halftime.
Northview woke up in the third quarter, however.
The Cougars outscored EHS 21-11 in the third to cut the Enterprise lead to 53-44 when the fourth quarter began.
Northview scored 30 points and allowed 16 in the final frame for the win.
"The second half we just got out of sorts," Barkley said. "They really made a hard push against our guards in the backcourt. Some guys came on late, but it was too little, too late. It was a really tough situation to watch as a coach, because I wanted it for them. I was hoping that clock would go out a little bit faster, but it didn't. "
Hayes led the Wildcats with 15 points, and Purvis followed with 14.
Mason Jordan had 12, and Felder had 11.
Lady Cats lose
Northview pulled away from the EHS Lady Cats in the fourth quarter for a 47-22 victory.
"For the first three quarters, I thought we played really well defensively," EHS girls basketball coach Jeffrey Keller said. "I thought the effort was really good. We created turnovers, and I thought we did a really good job on that end."
The Cougars led 3-2 after one quarter, and 15-9 after the first half.
Northview outscored the Lady Cats 10-6 in the third quarter and took a 25-15 lead into the fourth.
The Lady Cougars scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to EHS' seven for the win.
Gwen Mitchell led the Lady Cats with eight points.
"Offensively, I thought we certainly had opportunities," Keller said. "We just couldn't cash in on them. That was kind of the theme of the night. Scoring single digits in the first half, obviously it means your struggling to score from the field. That was what we kind of ran into tonight."
After the loss, Keller gave the Lady Cougars credit for their play.
"They do a good job at Northview," he said. "When they're facing a man-to-man, they have a way they're going to attack it. They did a good job of executing, they finished shots (and) obviously we were still struggling to score. That just kind of compounded."
