A five-run fourth inning pushed Elba to a 9-2 victory March 13 against the Daleville baseball team.
The Warhawks broke a scoreless tie an inning earlier.
"The bats were alive," DHS baseball coach Brien Sullivan said. "We're doing everything possible, but when it comes to that time when it counts and we need it we can't seem to do it."
Acazio Coleman led off the Daleville third with a single to center, and Ryan Warren hustled out an infield hit.
"They started out (doing) what they needed to do," Sullivan said. "(They) hung in there for a while. We just can't seem to make (it happen)."
Both runners scored on a Riley Remple double, and Daleville had a 2-0 advantage.
"(It was a) big hit by Riley," Sullivan said. "That was good. It happened when we needed it. Base running is not as good as what I want it to be. We're going to get there, though. We're still in the learning process, I guess. We're getting through the motions is what I'd say. We're going through the motions."
Elba took a 3-2 lead on a two-run double and an error.
The Tigers added five more runs in the fourth inning for an 8-2 lead.
They loaded the bases and scored twice on a single, once on another hit, once on a groundout and once on a sacrifice fly.
Daleville threatened in its half of the fifth, but did no damage.
Elba took a 9-2 lead in the sixth on a one-out single.
Bryce Souders pitched a complete game for the Warhawks, and struck out five.
"The pitching is there," Sullivan said. "We're just going to have to focus on this pitching when it's an area game. This was like a practice for us. This is going to get us prepared for what's coming. (Houston Academy) is going to be a real test for us, of what we're going to have to do."
Daleville put a runner in scoring position, but the Tigers ended the game on a double play.
"They started out (doing) what they needed to do," Sullivan said. "(They) hung in there for a while. We just can't seem to make (it happen)."
