The Daleville Lions Club hit the streets Dec. 1 raising money for the Alabama Lions Sight Conservations Association, an organization dedicated to providing eye-care for low-income children.

The group set up shop near Bojangles on Daleville Avenue, handing out candy to Daleville residents and asking for small donations.

“The Sight Foundation helps fund eye surgeries for needy children,” said Club President Kay Kirkland. “It’s always a lot of fun. We get to visit with our neighbors and help raise money for a good cause.”

Kirkland said the need for eye-surgeries is very high, and the operations can be very expensive.

“It’s a very worthwhile cause,” she said. “People have been very generous with their giving (this year).”

“The association is housed in Birmingham, but we have cooperative agreements throughout Alabama with ophthalmologists that perform surgeries for us,” said organizer Bill Fillmore. “Lions clubs all of the state raise money for the sigh foundation though a number of projects.”

Fillmore said in the past, Alabama Lions clubs have raised as much $14,000 for the foundation in a single year.
