Members of the Korean American Association gathered Feb. 1 at its Association Center in Daleville to celebrate the Korean New Year and welcome its new president Lydia Barnes.
The association, known as Kor-Am, welcomed dozens of guests for the Korean New Year celebration, which was observed Jan. 31, for fellowship and a traditional Koran meal.
Barnes said the association has continued to see growth and increased participation throughout the recent years.
The Korean-American Association is comprised of six areas within the state, including the South Alabama Region that includes surrounding communities such as Daleville, Ozark, Dothan and Enterprise.
Barnes said the Korean community in Alabama has continued to see growth as evidenced by the increase in Korean industries and businesses locating within the state.
"We therefore need everyone, all friends, to join us in support of this burgeoning enterprise and to help our people keep the trend growing and join in our activities," said Barnes as translated by her husband Greg. "Your volunteerism will help all of us ... and our role as partners in our community so that we can all therefore exchange and enjoy in each others cultures."
Daleville Mayor Claudia Wigglesworth said she was proud to have the Korean American Association calls Daleville home.
"I thank those officers that previously served and I also want to wish the officers that have just taken office a very successful year and lead, guide and direct this great organization for a successful year," Wigglesworth said.
