The weather may be heating up, but the Enterprise football team is taking full advantage of the summertime.
"We're kind of going back and re-installing our offense, defense and our kicking game," EHS coach David Faulkner said. "I think as we're going back through it the second time, they're starting to grasp some things we missed in the spring. (I) just really feel like we're improving each day."
During the summer the Wildcats have the luxury of more time to learn the aspects of Faulkner's plan.
"Going into the spring there (are) a lot of things that you're trying to get installed schematically and also from a philosophical standpoint. It's hard to do that on the field in nine days," he said. "I think what we just wanted to do is build some repetition, get some recognition and get a lot more reps so that we could be more consistent in what we did in the spring and build some consistency."
While learning to be steady in its methods, the team is also reemphasizing the value of toughness.
"In the game of football the most physical team wins most of the time so you've got to really develop a physical football team," Faulkner said. "We try to go out and be as physical as we can without the pads and without taking each other to the ground too much so that we can avoid injury."
The team's physicality has been one of Faulkner's main points throughout the summer.
"We're always working on execution and physical football," he said. "We're always preaching that, teaching that and working on it. We still have a very physical aspect to our practices as much as we can and still be safe."
With their improvement in summer workouts and in the weight room, the Wildcats are continuing toward the goals Faulkner has set.
"Now we're sitting about six months into this program here, and we're starting to see some progress. (We're) starting to see some of the things that we're trying to build, but we still have some work to do and a little ways to go."
