The Enterprise State Community College basketball teams remained winless Thursday, Nov. 29, in Gadsden when ESCC faced Gadsden State in games originally scheduled for Dec. 1.

The undersized Weevil Women may have set a school record for margin of defeat in a 104-23 setback that saw Enterprise’s record fall to 0-5.

The Weevil Women lost 79-62 in Enterprise earlier this season on Nov. 17.

“We obviously didn’t do anything right this time,” ESCC coach Charles Medley said of the rematch against Gadsden.

Paige Crutchfield led the Weevil Women with eight points. Amber Johnson had seven.

“We only had eight players for the game,” Medley said. “We had several girls out with injuries, but that’s not an excuse for how we played.”

Lack of size is a problem for both ESCC squads. The men’s record of 0-6 showed after Thursday’s 94-70 road loss.

“Turnovers are killing us, especially under the goal,” ESCC coach Jermaine Williams said. “We had 20 turnovers Thursday, and you’re not going to win many games with that sort of number.”

Le’Wayne Jones led ESCC with 17 points. Jerome Bettis netted 12, and Justin Young added 10 as the Weevils continue looking for improvement.

“We get four of our players back in January,” Williams said. “We’re getting whipped under the boards, but I’m looking for improvement when we get back and have our big guys after the holidays.”

The Weevils lost 87-70 against Lawson State Dec. 3.

The Cougars led 44-35 at the half before outscoring ESCC 43-35 in the second period.

Bettis led the Weevils with 19 points. Bolden Andrew Bolden added 15.

The Weevil Women lost 108-48 against Lawson State.

Tiarta Smith led the team with 16 points. Crutchfield added nine, and Treshay Patterson scored eight.

Both ESCC teams are scheduled to return to the court Dec. 10, beginning at 5:30 p.m., against Shelton State on the road.
