Hello! My name is Alexa Boehringer and I am the new reporter for the Daleville Sun-Courier and The Southeast Sun. My husband and I moved from Savannah, Ga., to Fort Rucker at the end of the year. We are very happy to be living and working in the Daleville/Fort Rucker community.

For my first column, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the city and the post for giving me such a warm welcome to the area. Everyone that I have had the pleasure of meeting over the past week has been incredibly kind and helpful, and I am grateful for your support. As a military spouse, I know what it feels like to worry about securing and starting any job, much less one that you truly enjoy. I feel blessed to be able to spend my days sharing your stories with the community.

Over the past week, I’ve been repeatedly impressed by this community’s accomplishments and the hard-working, dedicated people who live here. I’ve met a Teacher of the Year honoree at Fort Rucker Primary School, spoken with the Daleville Chief of Police about awards that recognize his outstanding staff, listened to future plans for the city at a council meeting with the Mayor, photographed Daleville High School JROTC members celebrating Read Across America Week with Windham Elementary students, and interviewed three of Fort Rucker’s top title-holding soldiers. There is so much to be proud of here, and again, I feel privileged to be the one that gets to share it all with you.

I’ve also spent time getting to know the teachers, coaches, and staff members at your schools. These people have been so friendly and helpful to me in getting to know your students. Like the other great people I’ve met, it is clear that they, too, are very passionate about what they do. That is perhaps my favorite part of this job: Learning about what it is everyday that you wake up and do, witnessing what you have chosen as your calling and service to others. I love meeting people whose daily life inspires us to better our own stories.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me about any news, upcoming events, or other interesting items that you would like to read about in our papers. I look forward to meeting you all and learning about your lives and stories. As your local reporter, I hope to show you as much warmth and gratitude as you have already shown me.
