A structure fire near Newton Monday has left a family of four homeless and without all basic necessities.
Newton Fire Chief Ed Snow said his department, along with the departments from Daleville and Wicksburg, battled the flames that engulfed the small wood frame home for approximately three hours. The home was located at 2811 Dale Co. Rd. 71. The fire call came in about at 11:37 a.m., he said, adding there were no injuries as no one was at home at the time of the blaze.
The real estate manager of the home, Debra Latremore of Aero Real Estate in Daleville, said her tenants—a single mother, three-year-old twins and an eight month old—are now homeless and in need of everything. She said the young woman and children are staying with a friend temporarily, but the realty is looking for alternative housing for her.
Latremore said the following items are needed: size four or five diapers for the special needs three year old girl; clothing in sizes 4T and/or 5T and shoes, size 9 toddler for the twins; clothing in sizes 12 to 18 months for the eight-month-old girl plus appropriately-sized diapers. Latremore said the mother also needs clothing from size seven pants to medium-to-large shirts. The mother also wears a size 8 shoe, Latremore said.
All items for the family may be dropped off at Aero Real Estate, 604 S. Daleville Ave., Daleville. Once a new residence is found for the family, Latremore said complete furnishings will also be needed.
